(visited by John Fahey and Kevin Craig)

13-Jul-2002 -- On Saturday, July 13, 2002, Kevin Craig and I left Ketchikan aboard my 24' boat, The Cajun Lady. We traveled 33 miles to Kirk Point and anchored in a small bay east of the point. Photo 8 shows the view toward the beach. After reaching the beach by inflatable boat, we set out up the drainage and soon encountered fresh wolf tracks. About a half mile up the creek we found 55°N and headed west into the bush. As the dense foliage often obscured the satellites we had to find clearings to keep getting GPS readings. On our circuitous route we found bear droppings, both grizzly and black, and signs where a bear had uprooted a skunk cabbage for a snack. When we reached the confluence we were pleased to see that nature had provided a cedar snag from which to hang the GPS unit. Thanks to this project we got to visit a part of Misty Fiords National Monument seldom if ever seen.
