09-Jul-2002 -- The confluence is located in Sotkamo - town well-known for it's winter sports centre Vuokatti (ed: Among cross country skiers, the ski tunnel, with skiable snow year-round is quite famous). We were hoping to hike more to get to the spot but it seems to be difficult to get into a place far away from the nearest road even here. Small road built for timber transportation led us very near the spot, and there was no need to walk more than about 500 meters to reach it.
The view from the sport wasn't anything spectacular: trees have been cut about 10 years ago, and all which is left is thick population of young pine trees, firs and birches preventing us from seeing anything else. The spot lies on a hilltop, and without trees - or with older ones, the scenery could have been beautiful. In one of the photos you can see a distant lake. That one is taken about 100 meters from the spot. Read a longer story of our trip in Finnish at glup.fi!
