13-Jul-2002 -- I drove down to this confluence by myself. I had no problem finding the area thanks to Mapquest.com. According to the map, the confluence point is just behind the houses on Rolling Meadows Ln. When I got there, I parked the car on the corner of Rolling Meadows and Chamblee, about .15 miles from the confluence point.
I saw a man about 50 feet from where I parked. I asked him about the woods behind the houses. He asked me why I was interested in them and why I wanted to go back there. I told him about the confluence point. He was not really that interested and he asked me what was the point of going there. I told him about the web site and that I wanted to visit the four confluence points around my house. He told me that I could go right into the woods where we were, but it might be easier if I went down the road to the power line. He then said he lived several houses down and that I could cut through his yard if I wanted. Since the point was in that direction, I went with him. His yard was fenced in with a gate in the back. He tried to open the gate, but he didn't have the correct keys. I thanked him and told him that I would go by way of the power line.
As it turned out, the power line was the way to go. I walked a little ways up the power line and came to a trail on the left. The confluence point was only about 80 or 90 feet from the intersection of the power line and the trail. I walked in and found the spot quickly and easily. I took a picture of the GPS and then of the spot where my GPS said the confluence point was. I also took pictures facing North, South, East, and West. According to the GPS, the point was close to a tall tree stump (see picture #1). It looks like the short broken tree in my picture #5 is the same tree in picture #4 from the first team.
As I was walking back to my car, I saw the same man again. I told him I found the spot and got my pictures. He asked me if people go to these spots at different times of the year. I thought this was an interesting question! I thanked him for his help, got in my car and headed down the road to 35 N / 78 W.
