13-Jul-2002 -- After visiting 35°N 79°W, I drove to 35 N / 78 W. It was pretty much a straight shot down Route 24. The easiest way to get to this confluence point is to go into the Dublin Country Club Estates. This is a small subdivision that surrounds tennis courts, a golf driving range and apparently somewhere, a golf course. I saw a dirt road with a sign that said to the 10th tee. There were also signs all over that said golf cart crossing.
The confluence point is on the north side of the Estates. I drove to a point about 370 feet away according to my GPS. I got out of the car and walked to the end of the field. At this point I was still over 100 feet away. The rest of the way to the target was through some pretty nasty vegetation, tall plants with plenty of thorns! It took me a while to get through this, and then I got to a second field and found a pile of sticks and debris right on the confluence point (see photo #1).
From the description given by the first team, it seems that I found the confluence point to be about twice as far off the road as they did. I took pictures of the GPS, the actual confluence point, and facing North, South, East, and West of the confluence point. Unfortunately the sun reflected off the GPS, but you can still see the latitude and longitude reading. On the way back to the car, I found a path made by a large vehicle, probably the one that made the pile of debris. I wish I had seen it on the way in!
