07-Aug-2002 -- This was our third day in our Lappland/Finnmark trip. Encouraged by our successfull hunt yesterday, we decided to try and visit this confluence, which according to our 1/1,500,000 Michelim map, seemed to be less than 1 km south to E6. We left Alta at about 6 pm, (the days are quite long at this region at this time of the year) and headed towards the conluence that seemed to be about 12 km from Alta. The main problem was that the distance was the GPS distance... but we were driving highway E6 along Altafjord, where the actual distance was about 20 km (if not more). As a result our hunting party got quite restless.
When we got to about 2 km north of the confluence, we found an unmarked dirt road heading south. We thought we were lucky again..After ~300 meters the road ended at a quarry...
The quarry had steep walls and beyond them there were mountains.
Asaf talked me into climbing the quarry walls. we did that, got to a plateau in a forest. We started to walk toward the confluence. After ~200 meters we realized that we will have to start climb up a mountain. At this point (and after getting to know local moskitos) we decided to give up.
We took a picture of the GPS, the area toward the confluence, and the surroundings and headed back.
