01-Sep-2002 -- My original plans for this day was to go to the (at the time) unvisited point 68Nx22E. I had planned this trip during the last week. If I had time I would also visit the two secondary points 67Nx21E and 67Nx23E.

I got up early this morning, packed my bags, and was ready to go. Then, standing there with the door open, I got this feeling: maybe I should check in to see that nobody reported a successful visit to 68Nx22E in the past few days. Well, yes! Henrik Sunden had been there on August 3:ed.

Since the big point with my trip to 68Nx22E was to go to one of the few still unvisited primary points in Sweden, I skipped that plan. I decided to go to the two secondary points I had planned instead.

I left Luleå (65°36'N, 022°07'E) at about 9 am. Drove up to Liikavaara (close to Gällivare), left the main road (E10) and followed a gravel road for about 10 km. The Gravel road ended approximately 2 km from the confluence point. The last 2 km was a little harder to walk than I had expected. The ground was soggier than it looked on the map. I had to pass two smaller bogs on the way. Luckily, the summer in Sweden has been warm and dry. I guess I would have had a harder time a "normal" summer.

The confluence is located in the forest, quite near a bog. The trees look quite old and is a mix of pine, birch and spruce (a typical forest in the northern Sweden). There were a lot of trees that had been turned over by the wind, which I found a little bit odd. Guess the landowner hasn't been here for a while...

I took the pictures, had some lunch, went back to my car, drove on to 67Nx23E.
