08-Sep-2002 -- Second time lucky!!!
Nine months after my previous attempt at this confluence I was back in the area and decided to make a second attempt.
After leaving the main track I drove for several kilometres along a railway maintenance track and managed to get within 1.7km before having to leave the vehicle and start walking.
The walk was not easy due to an uphill slope and the whole area being
littered with fist sized stones. Around 2/3 of the way there, the open country
became scrubby and was crossed by some small watercourses. After getting
within 150 metres of the confluence, the GPS started acting up and lost lock
due to poor satellite geometry. Ten minutes later the satellites had moved
enough and the GPS started working again.
I located the confluence, took several photos of the area and made my way back down to the car making sure to keep my eyes out for snakes!
