27-Oct-2002 -- After visiting 31S 28E and completing the Rhodes mountain bike race in one piece and without spilling any blood, Ferdi and I left Rhodes at seven on Sunday morning for the 1000 km drive back to Pretoria. We had decided to follow 27E most of the way and try and visit 31S 27E, 30S 27E, 28S 27E and 27S 27E along the way - four Confluences in one day. Along the way we would also pass very close to 29S 27E, which we visited about two months earlier, as well as 26S 28E, but we did not expect to have enough time to visit this one as well.
31S 27E was easy. We took the R344 turn-off towards Dordrecht just outside Lady Grey. This road intersects with another almost at the Confluence. A few hundred meters east along this road gets you to the closest point to the Confluence. We parked next to the road and jogged the 240 m to the point, getting there at 9h20. From there we continued to the N6 and Aliwal North on our way to 30S 27E.
