Estando em férias na Europa, não podia deixar de fazer algumas visitas a confluências fora do Brasil.

Guilherme, um amigo que não via a 30 anos desde que sua família se mudou para Portugal foi, com sua esposa Anabela, nos buscar em Lisboa e, a caminho de sua casa em Coimbra, participaram da visita à confluência mais próxima de Lisboa.

Por ser uma confluência já visitada, foi fácil encontrar o caminho com apenas algumas perguntas pela estrada. Cadafais é uma pequena localidade rural onde vimos plantações de pêssegos e uvas. (foto 1)

Só que o ponto não ficava em uma área cultivada e sim "protegida" pela mesma moita de "silvas" (espécie de amoreira selvagem) que os primeiros visitantes encontraram e, como todas as rosáceas são repletas de espinhos. (foto 4)

Nos aventuramos pela lama e espinhos de forma a ter a indicação do GPS zerada; antes tivéssemos parado quando estávamos a 5 metros ainda fora da moita pois não compensou o dano dos espinhos em minha calça. (a confluência está atrás de nós a uns 10 metros - foto 2)

Consegui tirar a foto 5 quase no mesmo ângulo da "South facing" da visita anterior.

Bela, que foi esperta e ficou na área desmatada do outro lado da moita (foto 3) se divertiu bastante como navegadora com o GPS e talvez os dois sejam novos "confluence hunters"; pena que quase todas mais próximas não são mais inéditas.

As fotos não saíram lá grandes coisas, o GPS (foto 6) ficou com W 8°59'59,9" faltando 2,25 m para zerar, esqueci de marcar o ponto final de forma a guardar também a altitude, mas a aventura valeu a pena.

Como as férias se estenderam a Paris, partimos também para a 49°N 3°E...

22-Apr-2003 -- During my holidays trip to Europe, I could not miss the opportunity to visit some confluences out of Brazil.

Guilherme, a friend whom I had not seen for about 30 years, since his family had to move to Portugal, met us in Lisbon with his wife Anabela. Before going to their house in Coimbra, we all went to visit the confluence next to Lisbon.

As it was an already visited confluence, it was easy to find its way only by asking some questions on the road. Cadafais is a small agricultural locality where we saw plantations of peaches and grapes (photo 1).

The confluence was not in a cultivated area; it was "protected" by the bush of "silvas" (species of wild mulberry full of thorns) that the first visitors had found (photo 4).

We risked through the mud and thorns to zero the GPS indication, but it was not worth the damage of the thorns in my pants (the confluence was 10 meters behind us - photo 2). We should have stopped when we were 5 meters off the bush!

I took photo 5 almost in the same angle of the "South facing" (from the previous visit). Bela, who was smart enough to stay in the deforested area on the other side of the bush (photo 3), had a great time navigating with the GPS, and perhaps she and her husband will be two new "confluence hunters"; It is a pity that almost all the confluences near to them have been already visited.

Although the photos are not very good because the GPS (photo 6) marked W 8°59'59,9" (2,25m to be zeroed) and I forgot to save the real end point to register the altitude.

As the trip continued in Paris, we also went to see 49°N 3°E...
