06-Mar-2001 -- We read about the Confluence Project on 3/4/01 and located
40N and 94W that had not been visited yet. This Confluence was located
about 90 minutes north of us about 1 mile southwest of a small town
called Jameson Missouri. We researched the location using Microsoft
Mappoint 2001 and the Aerial Photos from Terraserver. It looked
accessible and within 1/4 mile of the road.
We headed out the morning of 3/6/01. After exiting Interstate 35 we
had about 4 miles of very bumpy and muddy dirt roads that were not the
best roads to tackle with a Honda Accord.
We arrived at the location about 11:00am and tried to contact the
owner of the closest farmhouse but no one was home except a quasi-nice
dog. We left a letter on the porch in case the farmer arrived home while
we were out in his field. If he had showed up we would have walked back
to the house to explain why we were there.
We stepped over a small electric fence that ran along the road and
walked about 1/4 mile to the spot, pass the pond visible on Terraserver,
and to where the Garmin Etrex said we should be. After a minute of
moving around we got 40N/94W exactly. We took photos of north, south,
east and west and of the pond visible from Terraserver and then had the
camera take an auto shot of the two of us. We were there and gone in
about 15 minutes. We returned to the farmer's house and removed the
letter from the porch and headed home.
We plan on trying to find some other ones close to us. Unfortunately,
too many people know about this project and are taking all of the close
ones!!
