17-Oct-2003 -- After having visited 36S 61W we continued immediately on route
65 towards the next confluence, 35S 61W, mear the small settlement of
General Viamonte.
Almost exactly on latitude, we crossed an abandoned railtrack, and
parallel to it there is a dirt road, where me met a
lonely
rider.
The dirt road leads comfortably towards the confluence, and after a 2.5 km
or so we were exactly on longitude 61W and a 250 meters South of it.
Beautiful flowers were growing there along a grain field. We saw a beautiful
passion flower. Werner,
being a medical doctor, explains: The passion flower, botanically called
"passioflora" is used as a sedative phytotherapeutical, similar to
valerian.
The picture offers a certain contrast: The beauty of a flower beside the
ugliness of a barbed wire ...
The confluence itself is in a grainfield, with still young
wheat.
Looking towards North we see the hacienda, towards West there are several trees, and towards East
we see the open field.
Wheat is produced everywhere in this area. About 5 km from the confluence
there is a collecting plant, owned by CARGILL, a wordwide
operating grain company, trading wheat in all the world over.
After this visit we drove a 35 km North to the city of Junín, where we
intend to spend the night.
And today I can celebrate a jubilee:
This is my 100th confluence visit! Looking back, I remember to having learned about the project for the first
time in summer 2001 from Werner, and now we are here together in Argentina,
more than 10,000 km from our homes in Europe ...
Let's see where I will enjoy my 1,000th visit ... :-)
