14-Feb-2004 -- Had to visit Dumyāṭ for work over the weekend. Decided to pick up 31N 32E on the way back to Cairo. Expected to get there by blacktop except for the last 1 km. Got lost, blacktops turned into mud tracks which were slick after heavy local rain showers, but made it in the end. My Bawwāb about died when he saw what he would have to wash off the car.
Time, not distance is the measure of travel on the rather chaotic minor roads of the Nile Delta. I ended up on the wrong side of a canal about 500 north of the point and had to cross a very rickety foot bridge that I had serious doubts about it taking my weight, but the local family that lived opposite was friendly and encouraging. I think the young man minding the Fish farm where the point was located thought I was nuts and refused to be photographed.
Thanks to Steve Price for the loan of the Garmin and to Jim Roberts for the map of the immediate location.
