20-Dec-2003 -- El pasado 20 de Diciembre del 2003, un gran amigo de Austria nos invitó a Jose Antonio y a mi (Kildare) a un viaje a la gran sabana con la finalidad de encontrar un punto registrado en el mapa de Venezuela.
Para encontrar este punto Hans tiene un equipo llamado GPS, el cual, por medio de satélites te da la ubicación del punto que quieres buscar en cualquier parte del planeta. El punto en cuestión era el N:5°, W: 61°.

Hans manejó por 8 horas aproximadas desde Puerto Ordaz (Venezuela) hasta la impresionante Gran Sabana. Estacionamos el carro a unos 1.5 Km del punto que buscábamos y decidimos caminar por lo accidentado del terreno. Caminamos por llanuras, bosques vírgenes y más llanuras, cuando más nos acercábamos más acelerábamos el paso movidos por la emoción de encontrar nuestro objetivo, después de más de una hora de caminata bajo el sol inclemente de la selva venezolana llegamos a las coordenadas que nos indicaba el GPS, celebramos y nos abrazamos de la alegría.
Hans tomó algunas fotos del lugar y otras con nosotros tres y las coordenadas del GPS. Después de esto nos dispusimos al regreso caminamos otra hora más para llegar al carro, tomamos refrescos para calmar nuestra sed y decidimos visitar algunos lugares turísticos de la región nos bañamos en varios ríos y visitamos algunos saltos, todo esto rodeados del los magníficos Tepuis de la zona, el más impresionante que se veía era el RORAIMA.
La noche la pasamos en una posada llamada "los Rápidos de Kamoiran" y esa noche comimos bebimos y hasta bailamos con algunas chicas indígenas del lugar, al día siguiente visitamos el Salto Aponwuao el cual es impresionante y en la tarde nos fuimos de regreso a Puerto Ordaz.

La experiencia fue indescriptible y la volvería a repetir, espero que Hans tenga algún otro punto que encintrar en nuestro país para acompañarlo nuevamente.

Bereits am 30. November näherten wir auf dem Weg nach Paraitepui bis auf 1,77 km an den CP an [Pic8.jpg]. Mit dem Hintergrund der mächtigen Kukenán & Roraima Tepuis [Pic8.jpg] versprach dieser CP eine wunderschöne Szenerie.

Ein weiterer Ausflug in die Gran Sabana am 20./21.Dezember zusammen mit Kildare and Jose bot eine weitere Gelegenheit, einen Versuch zu unternehmen. Etwa 2 km Luftlinie vom CP stellten wir unser Fahrzeug ab. Sehr bald stellte sich heraus, dass zwischen uns und dem CP ein Abhang mit regenwaldähnlichem Bewuchs stand. Glücklicherweise fanden wir einen Fußpfad, mit dessen Hilfe wir schließlich den dichten Wald durchqueren konnten [Pic9.jpg].

Nun konnten wir mit Zuversicht die Ebene überqueren und hoffen, dass der CP noch vor dem nächsten Hindernis lag. Geplagt von Stechfliegen aller Art näherten wir uns dem CP und bis zuletzt war die Frage offen – müssen wir das vor uns liegende Flussbett durchqueren?

Schließlich kurz vor dem Ende der Ebene die begehrten Nullen erhalten [Pic6.jpg]. Leider blieb uns der Blick auf die Tepuis verwehrt. Nach den Fotoaufnahmen waren wieder froh den Fliegen entkommen zu können. Unsere Anwesenheit schien sich herumgesprochen zu haben. Der Rückweg war schweißtreibend und wir waren froh, am Auto den Flüssigkeitsverlust ausgleichen zu können.

Obwohl die Szenerie nicht so großartig war, wird uns dieser eigenartige und schlagartige Wechsel der Vegetation in Erinnerung bleiben. Die ‚Gran Sabana’ kann sicher als einen der großartigsten Landstriche dieser Welt bezeichnen – eine Reise wert.

On 30 November on the way to Paraitepui we came as close as 1,77 km to the CP to [Pic8.jp]. In face to face of the mighty Kukenán & Roraima Tepuis [Pic8.jpg] this CP promised beautiful scenery.

A further trip into the Gran Sabana on December, 20th/21st. together with Kildare and Jose offered another opportunity to undertake an attempt. About 2 km from the CP we parked our vehicle. Very soon it turned out that there was a slope with rain forest-similar vegetation between us and the CP. Fortunately we found a foot path through the dense forest and we could finally cross this obstacle [Pic9.jpg].

Now we could cross the plain ahead and hoped that the CP is situated within this area. Troubled by all kinds of mosquitos we approached the CP with one open question – do we have we to cross the river bed ahead ?

Just on the edge of the plain we were able to read the desired ZEROS [Pic6.jpg]. Unfortunately the Tepuis were hidden behind a ridge. After the photo had been taken we tried to escape the torturing gladly flies as fast as possible. It seemed that presence was reported to all of these creatures in the area. The way back was sudorific and we were glad to be back to the car on order to satisfy our thirst

Although the scenery was not so great, this strange and sudden change of the vegetation will stay for in our memory. Surely, the ‘Gran Sabana’ can be called one of the greatest regions of the globe – a journey worth.
