15-Feb-2004 -- After concluding our first confluence find, and having a night in a Naseby Motor Camp, we retraced our steps to the South towards Omakau, but deviated left before we got there. We carried on South to Alexandra, Roxburgh and Raes Junction where we turned right onto SH 90, following it as far as Willowbank, turning right there for Maitland. We could see from the GPS that we were getting close to the objective and turned west onto the East Chatton-Maitland Road. We followed this road until we saw that just off the road to the left was an implement shed and the GPS reading at this point was 45° 59 47S 168° 59 50E.
We went on foot past the implement shed and through a farm gate onto a field of grass. In the next door field was a herd of cows which was being very curious about our movements. There wasn't a sign of man and we weren't trespassing, but we carried 'the letter' just in case we met the farmer.
We crossed the field diagonally until the coordinates met down a slight slope near a fence. Thankfully we didn't have to climb the fence to find 46°S 169°E. The GPS said that we were right on the spot.
