21-Feb-2003 -- La mañana del 21 de febrero de 2003, en Cipolletti, Río Negro, Argentina, nos encontrábamos partiendo a disfrutar un fin de semana en Bariloche dos familias amigas.

A las 11:30 hs. aproximadamente decidimos ir en busca de la intersección del paralelo 40 de latitud Sur y del meridiano 70 de longitud Oeste, ubicado en cercanías del dique Pichi Picún Leufú, sobre el río Limay, siguiendo la flecha que indicaba el GPS, hasta llegar al pié de la meseta, donde estacionamos los autos y debimos continuar caminando los apenas 650 metros que nos separaban de la intersección.

La dificultad fue que en esa corta distancia debimos ascender 85 metros. El paisaje es árido y con arbustos bajos, característicos de la Patagonia Argentina, y el sol era abrazador y milagrosamente sin viento.

Cuando el cansancio se notaba en nuestros rostros, la intersección se encontraba ahí, en un pequeño acantilado del lugar que nos dificultó llegar, una vez que cumplimos nuestro objetivo aún nos quedaba un difícil camino de bajada que nos costó varios resbalones y algunos raspones en codos y piernas. Las fotos muestran el escarpado del lugar de intersección y el paisaje del lugar visto hacia el Norte, Este y Sur, hacia el Oeste no podía verse nada porque se encontraba el faldeo de la meseta.

El grupo estaba formado por Alejandra, Susana (con Santiago en su panza), Luciana, Sabrina, Agustina, Diego, Ezequiel, Horacio y Carlos.

On February 21, 2003 in Cipolletti, Rio Negro Argentina, we were getting ready with a friend family to travel for a week end to Bariloche.

Approximately at 11:30 hs we decided to find the intersection of parallel 40 South latitude and meridian 70 West. Located close to the Pichi Picun Leufu dam on the Limay River. We followed the indication of our GPS until we reached the base of the plateau were we parked our vehicles. Then, we had to walk 650 mts to the intersection. The complication was that in that distance we had to climb 85 mts.

The landscape is arid, with low plants as a characteristic of the Argentine Patagonia, the sun was burning but luckily there was no wind.

When tiredness began to show up on our faces we located the intersection there, in a small cliff that was not easy to reach. Once we got our target accomplished we had to walk down the way back that at cost of some scratches in our legs and arms.

The pictures show the craggy place of the intersection and the North, East and South landscape. No landscaping was possible towards the west because we had the plateau slope there.

The group was formed by Alejandra, Susana, Luciana, Sabrina, Agustina, Diego, Ezequiel, Horacio and Carlos.
