#1: view SW of atlantic oceon

(visited by Penny)

07-Mar-2004 -- Visiting this confluence was undertaken as a part of the development of navigational, astronomical, Cityhenge, and related projects for schools by Ciencias y Artes Patagonia (CAPat) based in Puerto Madryn, Chubut, Patagonia (see www.capat.org)

The confluence is on a private estancia (farm) with a view of the oceon. The confluence lies near the Eastern coast of South America. But because of the rugged coastline, from here the Atlantic Oceon can be seen to the South West.

Panoramic photographic records through 360 degrees were taken using a digital video camera from which still shots have been captured.

The area is of desert scrub (generally less than a metre high) with occasional small lakes (pools) and river beds. They were dry when visited and are apparently so most of the year. The ground is generally of a white to light brown appearance with loose pebbles scattered over the surface.

It is probable that the confluence (our GPS reading 45-00.000S 66-00.000W: elevation 67 feet/20m)(foto 2) has been visited previously (perhaps by local surveyors) as there was an area approximately one metre diameter some 20 metres distance to the southwest (45-00.008S 66-00.003W) where it appeared pebbles had been brushed aside and possibly marks made on the relatively smooth ground.

Guanaco (like llama) and nandu (like ostrich) can be seen in the area
