06-Jan-2001 -- After having to abort my previous confluence attempt,
I headed west from Burwell, NE towards Brewster, NE. At Brewster,
I took County Road 1 northwest towards confluence 42°N 100°W.
I was stopped 0.7 miles from my destination by a barbwire gate with
a "No Trespassing" tire. Judging by the contents in the foreground
of one of the photographs, I don't know if I would have wanted to journey
past the gate. No matter how careful I am, I always seem to step in it. :)
According to my atlas, the confluence is located on the Hawley Flats.
There were sandhills in all directions and it was a beautiful location. I'd like
to return someday and be able to take in more of the scenery.
So far my count was two confluences visited, one aborted, and now
one attempted. Not bad for someone who didn't even know what a
confluence was a few days ago.
My next waypoint was entered in my GPS and I was off for Mullen, NE.
