15-Jan-2000 -- January in Indiana is usually cold and cloudy. Today
it is rather warm with highs in the lower 50's but windy and overcast. I heard about
the Degree Confluence Project and thought it would be worthwhile to do. I had
just recieved my first GPS, a Garmin II+ just two days earlier. Looking on a topomap
of the area, my nearest confluence (39N and 87W) was about 26 miles away near
Bloomfield, IN. Further investigation found it located in a corn field owned by Jane
Stahl. I contacted Jane to obtain permission to photograph the confluence. Jane
told me the property had been in her family (Shepherd) since 1890. We drove to
within 100 ft of the confluence. Picture #1 is looking east toward the Stahl farm buildings. Pictures #2, #3 and #4 are to the south, west and north respectively.
