30-Jul-2004 -- The hardest part about 39n118w is finding a safe place to park a RV. Although only about 500 feet from NV 361, the shoulders of the road are quite soft and slope significantly away from the horizontal. If Gabbs, NV were ever to get a lot of rain, this road and its shoulders will definitely stay dry!
Parking so as not to be a hazard to any other vehicle traveling this lonely road resulted in a slightly longer hike. My daughters quickly located the spot and I was able to get a triply redundant horizontal agreement on 3 GPS receivers.
There was only about a 4 foot delta between receivers in the vertical axis. Try that with more than one or two receivers and you can see what a challenge it can be! Picture #6 shows my favorite confluence navigators with our RV in the background and the town of Gabbs, NV off to the far right.
Total round trip time was 21 minutes (after parking) and .68 miles. During this time, not a single vehicle passed in either direction along NV 361.
Time to head back towards California for the last confluence of this trip: 38n119w!
