21-Aug-2004 -- This visit was the first of two on the same day. My wife and I were returning from a trip to Marble Bar along the North West Coastal Highway and noticed a track off the highway about 18km south of Minilya Roadhouse. Using our satellite phone, I called Minilya Station to request permission to enter the property and spoke to Ben Edmundes. After explaining the purpose of the visit, Ben was happy for us to use the station tracks.
We drove south west on the track for about 2km to an area of gravel pits, and left the vehicle there to walk in the remaining 2.3km. Our path to the confluence had to divert around a creek with large pools from recent rains (see photo of the flooded creek). The walk was relatively easy going, with low scrub, occasional red dunes and clay pans.
