09-Oct-2004 -- the Degree Confluence Project - грандиозный проект! Наверное у каждого Охотника за Пересечениями есть своя собственная история о первом знакомстве с Проектом и первом найденом Пересечении. Теперь такой рассказ есть и у меня! Наберитесь терпения и читайте...

Я хоть и считаю себя довольно "продвинутым" в технике и технологиях человеком и о системе GPS узнал много лет назад, "вживую" познакомиться даже с самым простым приемником все как-то не приходилось. Но пару недель назад в мои руки буквально на один час попал такой прибор и я, совершенно не имея никакого опыта работы с ним и даже не имея Инструкции, руководствуясь только своими смутными представлениями, как это все должно работать, получил простой, но необходимый мне в тот момент результат - точные координаты точки для будущего строительства. При этом прибор автоматически зафиксировал все мои передвижения по городу, показал пройденное мной расстояние, среднюю и максимальную скорость и что-то там еще... Это произвело на меня сильнейшее впечатление! И я, тем же вечером, после недолгого изучения возможных вариантов в Интернет, купил себе, через тот же Интернет, GPS-навигатор.

Но он еще в пути ко мне, а я продолжал изучать в Интернет все, связанное с применением этих приборов и наткнулся на описание Degree Confluence Project.

Проект сразу же очень сильно заинтересовал меня, тем более оказалось, что в нашей Воронежской области и во всех соседних с ней областях посещена и описана только одна единственная точка! Да и то это сделал проездом человек из далекой Сибири!

Обидно мне стало за родные края, и я решил, не дожидаясь получения собственного прибора, взяться за устранение упущения, столь неприятного для меня и моих земляков. Тем более, что погода для осени стояла необыкновенно сухая и теплая, терять такой момент было нельзя! (И ведь как чувствовал: сейчас, когда я пишу эти строки на утро после посещений, за окном льет дождь!)

Я решил начать свою карьеру Охотника за Пересечениями с точки с самыми круглыми координатами в нашем регионе - 50º N 40º E. С детства люблю круглые числа :)

Ну а по пути к ней можно было посетить и точку 51º N 39º E. Ну а заодно уж и лежащую в соседней Белгородской области так близко, что даже попала на краешек карты Воронежской области, точку 50º N 39º E.

Итак все готово! Изучены все инструкции по посещениям с сайта Проекта, найдены необходимые карты, взят на время у друзей компактный Garmin Etrex, и мы с сыном отправляемся на свою первую охоту за Пересечениями!

Ранним субботним утром 9 октября 2004 года выезжаем из города и берем курс к искомой точке 51º N 39º E почти точно на Юг. До точки по прямой всего 80 км. Почти сразу за городской чертой попадаем в полосу сильного тумана, но движения на трассе почти нет, лишь изредка видим выплывающие из тумана фары встречных машин. Но утренний туман в наших краях - верная примета солнечного дня и мы смело движемся к нашей цели. Временами туман отступает от дороги, оставаясь только в низинах и нам открывается вид осеннего Центрального Черноземья России - небольшие холмы, или ярко зеленые или совсем черные от свежевспаханной земли и небольшие лесочки и лесополосы, все пожелтевшие, но еще совсем не сбросившие листву. Приближаемся к Точке, туман почти полностью рассеялся, солнце уже довольно высоко. По нашим рассчетам, Пересечение должно находиться совсем недалено от шоссе. И действительно, минуты в координатах на экране приемника стремительно приближаются к нулю и в момент нашей остановке на обочине дороги разница с координатами Пересечения составляет лишь несколько секунд. Выходим из машины, пересекаем неширокую лесопосадку и выходим на скошенное поле. Под ногами довольно сыро от обильной росы, обувь сразу промокла и мы вспоминаем о резиновых сапогах, предусмотрительно положенных в багажник. Но Пересечение как магнитом притягивает нас все удлиняющейся чередой нулей и мы не находим сил сопротивляться. Все, на экране круглые нули, мы в Точке Пересечения! Делаем необходимые фото, сохраняем данные в памяти навигатора. Тут немного дает себя знать полное отсутствие опыта - я не взял магнитный компас и пришлось побегать взад-вперед для определения сторон света, т.к. Garmin Etrex показывает корректные данные только в движении. И еще пару раз пришлось вернуться на Точку - то я забыл определить точность, то не записал высоту...

А на скошенном поле, прямо на месте Пересечения, каким-то образом остался небольшой пучек нескошенной травы... Кто-то знал? Кто же? :)

Ну а мы двинулись дальше к заветной 50º N 40º E. До нее около 120 км.

09-Oct-2004 -- the Degree Confluence Project - a grand project! Probably each Confluence Hunter has their own history about their first acquaintance with the Project and the first confluence they found. Now I have such a story! Gather your patience, and read...

Although I consider myself a person "advanced enough" in technology, and I learned about the GPS system many years back, it was always somehow not necessary to become familiar with the simplest receiver "live, in person. But a couple of weeks back such a device wound up in my hands, literally, for an hour, and I, having had absolutely no operational experience with it, and not even having the Instructions, being guided only by my own vague ideas as to how all this should work, got a simple (but necessary for me at that moment) result - the exact coordinates of a point for a future construction project. In the process, the device automatically recorded all my movements through the city, showed the distance I travelled, average and maximum speed, and something is there still... It has made on me the strongest impression! And I, the same evening, after briefly studying the possible options on the Internet, have bought for myself, through that same Internet, a GPS-navigator.

But it it still on its way to me, and I continued to study everything connected to the use of these devices, and on the Internet I came across a description of the Degree Confluence Project.

The project immediately very strongly interested me, especially since it appeared that in our Voronezh region, and in all areas next to it only one point has been visited and described! And that one was done by a person from distant Siberia, while passing through!

To me, it became an insult to my native lands, and I decided, not waiting to receive my own device, to undertake the elimination of this omission so unpleasant for me and my fellow countrymen. As the weather, for autumn, was unusually dry and warm, it was impossible to waste such moment! (And in fact it is as I felt: now, when I write these lines on the morning after the visits, rain pours behind the window!)

I decided to begin my confluence-hunting career with the point with the most round coordinates in our region - 50º N 40º E. Since childhood I have loved round numbers. :)

But on the way to it, it was possible to visit also the point 51º N 39º E. Well, at the same time, laying in the next Belgorod area so close that it has even gotten on the edge of the map of the Voronezh area, there is the point 50º N 39º E.

So everything is ready! I have studied all the instructions for visits from the Project site, necessary maps are found, a friend's compact Garmin Etrex has been borrowed for a while, and my son and I set out on our first hunt for Confluences!

Early Saturday morning, on October 9, 2004, we leave the city and head to the sought-after point 51ºN 39ºE, almost directly to the South. It is only 80 km to the point in a straight line. Almost immediately past the city boundary we end up in an area of thick fog, but there is very little traffic on the highway, only occasionally do we see emerging from the fog headlights of oncoming cars. But in our region, a morning fog is a true sign of a sunny day, and we confidently start out toward our goal. From time to time the fog recedes from the road, remaining only in lowlands, and reveals to us a view of the Central Chernozem region of Russia in the autumn - small hills, either brightly green or absolutely black from freshly-plowed ground both small wooded areas and strips of forest, all yellowed, but not yet entirely fallen, foliage. We come nearer to the Point, the fog has almost completely dissipated, the sun is already fairly high already. By our calculations, the Confluence should be quite near to the highway. And indeed, the minutes in the coordinates on the screen of the receiver quickly approach zero, and when we stop on a shoulder of the road the difference with the coordinates of the Confluence was only a few seconds. We leave the machine, we cross a rather narrow grove, and we emerge in a mown field. Under our legs it is rather damp from plentiful dew, our footwear at once has gotten wet, and we remember the rubber boots providently placed in the trunk. But the Confluence, like a magnet, draws us all with a lengthening sequence of zeroes, and we do not find the strength to resist. Everything on the screen is a round zero, we are at the Confluence Point! We take the necessary photos, we keep the data in the memory of the navigator. Here our lack of experience makes itself felt a little - I have not taken a magnetic compass, and it was necessary to run about backwards-forward for definition of the directions, since the Garmin Etrex shows the correct data only in movement. And still a few times it was necessary to return to the Point - that I have forgot to determine the accuracy, and have not written down the elevation...

But on the mown field, directly on a place of Intersection, there has somehow remained a small tuft of unmown grass... Someone knew? Who!? :)

Well, we have moved on to the treasured 50º N 40º E. It is about 120 km to there.
