16-Oct-2004 -- I started the journey by bike from Uralsk where I live. I took the motorway Uralsk-Atyrau and travelled South as far as Balagan settlement. Then I turned to the right and cycled West along a country road that jointly with a forest belt separates weat fields. The temperature was getting close to freezing point. That is why I tried to make as few stops as possible.
In 15 km the road crossed a small long nameless lake and led to a mobile field camp of farmers. I was met by a cook and a dog. Both were friendly and hospitable. But I was not hungry and kept on moving.
The 51-51 junction is located 200 meters north of the camp. Just a strip of plane steppe. There is a wheat field to the west and the long lake to the east. I was pleased that the point was not in the middle of the winter crops field or the lake.
Short exploring of the shore revealed lots of birds which evidently were migrating from north to south at this time. A hawk circled the coast line in search of prey.
The way back was exactly the same. Next time I did this route I would bring fishing rods.
