12-Sep-2004 -- Sunday 6:00 am, Uli and myself left Bauchi where we had spent the night after our visit to 11N 10E, and went towards Bula where we turned off towards Katagum. At Katagum we had to find our way through the village and located the way to Mun, which lies on the other side of the river Gongola. The road was very bad and after a couple of kilometres, which took quite a while, we parked the vehicle and we carried on, Uli on his bicycle and myself on the Honda 600XR.

It was a beautiful morning and we enjoyed the drive through this beautiful countryside. I drove ahead and Uli followed the tracks of my bike. Upon arrival at the river Gongola, I started negotiating the price for the passage and the bike was loaded onto the boat. Uli's arrival was timely as he only had to hop onto the boat and we crossed the river. We where both surprised at how wide this river was. The river was something like 300 meter wide but not very deep. A large crowd had gathered on the other side and was curiously watching us.

We went through Mun and found a small path leading us as close as 400 meter to the Confluence. The last meter we had to drive through the bush. For a while we drove alongside a field of maize. The locals had cut down thorn bushes and laid them around these fields to protect the crop. We had to be careful not to get our tyres punctured. By 10 am, we where at the Confluence. After we had taken all the routine pictures, Uli tried to take one picture of both of us with the aid of the self timer which took more than a couple of minutes, but he managed eventually. We had a pleasant ride back to Mun, crossed the river again, and went to the place where we had parked the vehicle.

Uli's bicycle ride ended there. I carried on a bit further to Katagom where I loaded the bike onto the trailer as well, and we started the return trip to Abuja. The ride back to Abuja was very pleasant with a few beers and a bottle of red wine in the back of the car. After all, we successfully had visited the magical 10/10.
