02-Jul-2019 -- I had already visited this point 13 years ago, in July 2006, but - on my way back to the San Francisco Bay Area from central Utah - decided to revisit it, to get better photos, and a drone's-eye view. It turns out, however, that because the area is so flat and featureless, the views from a drone are almost the same as the views from the ground.
With a reasonably high-clearance vehicle, there are several possible ways to get to this point. This time, I took the same route that Shawn Fleming took in August 2005: from Highway 159, I turned onto a wide smooth gravel road (Blackrock-Crystal Peak Road) at [38.95425,-114.03338], then turned North onto a doubletrack road at [38.96915,-113.99818]. This doubletrack road took me about 0.5 miles from the point; I was able to drive across the desert most of the rest of the way.
The point looks the same as I’d remembered it, except that the rocks from “the small rock cairn” are now spread around the point. Curiously, the point is now marked by a hexagonal-shaped hole.
Here is a remote-controlled aerial video of this confluence point.
