05-Aug-2005 -- This year's 49th European Go Congress took place in Prague and it has already become a kind of tradition of Bernd and me to visit a confluence point on this occasion. For those who don't know the game of Go yet I want to explain that you use a board of (19*19) horizontal and vertical lines and alternately place stones on the empty intersections. All confluence hunters recognize the similarity with the DCP at once.

Prague is located on the 50th latitude and in the middle between the 14th and 15th longitude East. This means that the next two confluence points are both at a distance of 35 km as the crow flies to the East and West respectively. The problem was now, how should we reach one of these points without having a car available? But Jan knew the very useful link where you can search for train and bus connections. Thus we worked out an itinerary and on the next day, after we all finished our Go games, we started our trip.

First we took the Metro from Chodov to Hlavni nádrazí (the central station). From the near by station Masarykovo nádrazí we took a train to Ceský Brod which took about 35 minutes. The busses 422 and 442 to Kouřim leave right in front of the station in Ceský Brod. With one of these busses we reached Kouřim after another 35 minutes. Led by the GPS we strolled over the market place and through the alleys eastwards in the direction of the confluence point. As described by all other visitors, the town of Kouřim is quite nice. Without knowing it we followed the route description of visitor #5. We also passed the boulder "Lechuv Kamen". We discovered the useful city map only later on our way back.

Our destination, the field with the yellow pole and a smaller white one is covered with grass and herbs, so it was no problem to enter it. The magic spot with the many zeros lies somewhere between the two poles. The view is not very spectacular, Kouřim lies hidden in a valley although it is not very far. We took the usual pictures and after we rewarded ourselves in Kouřim with some ice cream, we took the next bus for our journey back to Prague.
