#1: Panoramic View S-E-N. The CP is 110 m in your back

(visited by Philippe Burtin and Antonella Burtin)

14-Apr-2012 -- Rainy day in Italy ! This was our last day of vacation during easter week and we were on our way home when we made a try on this CP. N43 E12 is really close to the highway between Rome and Firenze so we decided to make a short side trip that would not delay our journey.

We left the highway and went through Chiusi and Po Bandino. It was easy to spot the earth track heading uphill in the direction of the CP. We parked our car approximately 110m from the point and very close to a rural bed and breakfast (Agriturismo) that seemed unoccupied at the time.

We didn’t prepare the visit with the same attention as usual and thought that the CP would lie in the field less than 50m south of that house. Unfortunately, the sunflower field has been replaced by a wheatfield and has been entirely fenced. We were under a heavy rain and there was no one to whom I could ask permission to enter the field. I noticed that on the right side of the gate, the fencing was tied to a low wall leaving a small space through wich I could enter the field.

Once on the other side I walked along that wall with my GPS in one hand and an umbrella in the other, and stopped 86m south of the CP, being sure at that time that the point was right in the middle of the crop. Back to the car I quickly shot the usual pics and we went back on the main road.

We made a second stop for lunch a little later in Sienna were we spent a few minutes counting the umbrellas on the famous Piazza del Campo. Once we were back home I realized my mistake in locating the CP in the field. I think that the point is still reachable by walking along the north side of the fence.
