#1: Confluence point

Since we had no good maps of Oman, the Garmin unit provided by the car rental firm was very useful. After a couple of interesting days in Masqaṭ, admiring the old and the new, we took National highway No. 1 along the coast northwards. From the Google maps we had the impression there would be some "dense" population between the highway and the confluence point.

As it turned out the Garmin sent us straight inland on a perfect metalled road for about 3 km. Then it indicated a road to the left. We saw no road but followed some car tracks into the wilderness of gravel and the odd bush or tree, almost all the way to the confluence point. The walking bit was only about 100 m. On the return to the car we saw that even our little Nissan could have made it all the way to the CP.

When leaving the confluence point we noticed some lorries driving parallel to us a few hundred meters away. We headed towards them and found a regular graveled road which we followed back to the metalled road. We then saw the sign metioned by some other visitor: We had left the CP on a private road...
