14-Jan-2001 -- For our second confluence visit, we targeted N49 E7 west of Sarralbe in the Lorraine department of France.

Unlike our first confluence (50N 9E) the weather was gorgeous - very sunny with no cloud in sight but freezing cold as well.

After about 2 hours drive through the "Pfalz" area in Germany and after crossing the border to France, we were approaching the confluence via the N61 and N56 roads. According to our maps, a small track (probably for agricultural use) would lead to a spot about 200m away from our target. Unfortunately, it lead through a forest where a 'battue' hunt was taking place this Sunday, and we weren't too keen to be mistaken for some kind of exotic wildlife.

Trying the same path from its other end proved to be the right decision - fortunately, the confluence was NOT in the forest where the hunt was going on. Instead, it turned out to be located just outside the enclosure of a water tower on the top of a nearby hill.

This confluence point was very easy to get to - we later noticed a small road leading to the water tower so we could have driven almost right up to it. Walking through the fields GPS in hand was more fun anyway though.
