Just after having crossed the border back to Dubayy, we found a very good road to the right which took us almost all the way to the confluence point. Now and then we saw the barbed wire fence separating UAE and Oman to the right. We arrived at the dam mentioned by earlier visitors (it still contained some water) and entered into a terrain more suitable for 4x4s. Our Nissan Sunny made it to about 400 m from the confluence point.
With the hand held Garmin I headed up a small steep hill consisting mainly of brown, rough, and crumbling rocks. It was difficult to walk up, but even more difficult walking down on the other side to where I followed a small gorge or valley, passed the remains of a tiny "salt lake", around a bend and there was a cairn on the hillside in front of me. Up by the confluence point there were strong gusts of wind which made it difficult to stand still on the lose gravel on the slope and take good photos. The sky was cloudy and temperature around 18 °C.
Going down the slope I met my wife who had used her head and not a GPS. She had walked around the rocky hill.
