22-Jul-2023 -- This is the last out of 5 reports visiting confluence points during a one-week bicycle trip in Southern Norway starting and ending in Stavanger. The story starts from 60°N 6°E and continues from 59°N 8°E.
It took me two days of cycling from 59°N 8°E to reach this confluence point. To cover those 58 km straight-line-distance to this confluence point, I ended up cycling 165 km on roads. This is due to the sparse road network in the Norwegian highlands (fjell).
The sealed road no.450 comes as near as 2.3km from this confluence point. I parked my bicycle at this nearest point and commenced my hike. The terrain proofed to be challenging due to its ruggedness. Between the road and the confluence are several valleys, lakes, mountains and steep rock-faces. It would make a perfect site for an orientation run. It took me about 70 minutes to reach the confluence. The description given by the previous visitor Terje is correct and there is nothing to add: stay on the western side of the lakes and circumvent the steep rockface where the confluence is located on its top.
The confluence is well above the tree line in a tundra like vegetation consisting of mostly wet grass and moss between the boulders. Even end of June are still remainders of snow fields around. The confluence is located on a high plateau. If you walk a bit from it, you can have great views into the surrounding hills and valleys.
On my way back, I attempted to reach my bicycle without the help of my GPS, mobile phone and map. I succeeded, but made a mistake on the last 100 m, where I failed to climb down a mountain with steep rockfaces. I peeked and poked around until I found a save way down. I cycled for another 60 km and spent the night in a Wanderheim in Byrkjedal.
