13-Sep-2020 -- While driving from Dunedin to Christchurch I decided to investigate how close I could get to the coast, looking towards the Degree Confluence Point, in the ocean more than 3km away.
As David Thompson noted back in 2002, the nearest public road - Seafield Road - ends at a private farm, about 500m from the coastline. A prominent sign noted that there was no public access to the shoreline.
I would have liked to have flown my drone out over the ocean, to get a rough view of what the coastline would look like from the point. Alas, this was not possible, as it would have required first flying the drone over the private farm, which would require permission.
