23-Feb-2024 -- I had previously visited this point 8 years ago, in March 2016, and remembered it lying within a small patch of forest, surrounded by a grassy farm field. I recently noticed, however, that recent satellite imagery showed that the forest had since been cleared, and that the point was now part of the farm field. So, while on vacation once again in New Zealand’s Southland region, I had to revisit this point to see the change for myself.
I parked outside a farm gate at [-45.99700,169.0056], 337m North of the point. (By climbing over this gate, I was able to avoid the electric fence.) I then walked across the farm field (crossing a couple of stiles) to reach the point, which, indeed, is now part of the field. (I could tell that cattle had recently been in this field, although it was empty at the time of my visit.) The only remaining part of the forest is a line of trees (presumably for a windbreak) just to the South of the point.
Because of New Zealand’s drone laws, I couldn't fly my drone over the point (on private property) without permission of the owner. So instead I flew my drone straight up and down from the side of the road, 337m North of the point.
