#1: The Confluence from 15 m distance

(visited by Rainer Mautz and Elionora)

25-Sep-2014 -- This is the 4th out of 12 confluence reports, reaching 10 and attempting 2 confluence points in Iran and Turkmenistan. The story starts at 36°N 51°E and continues from 35°N 52°E.

Actually, we had planned to begin our bicycle trip through Iran and Turkmenistan that day. But in consideration of the heavy traffic on Iranian roads, we decided to keep our rental car for another week and then start a shorter bicycle trip in Mašhad (مشهد). Having a car opened up new possibilities for visiting confluence points.

Our trip started 1:30 PM in Tehrān. We squeezed our bicycles into the little car and headed towards this Confluence, which is located 30 km south of the city Qazvīn (قزوين). We took a direct road from Tehrān and approached the Confluence from the South. There is an asphalt road that gets the confluence visitor within 40 m of the confluence point. The walk across flat sandy terrain takes about one minute when walking slowly. If I had to rate the degree of difficulty, this Confluence would get the lowest rating. But I don’t rate confluence points in such a way, because the difficulty not only depends on the location of the point but also on the circumstances such as the means of transportation, the weather, and the personal familiarity to the area or country.

The ground cover is sand with scattered thorny bushes. There is a housing in 400 m distance.

We continued our drive northwards and stayed the night in the city Qazvīn. There, we visited Emāmzādeh Ḥoseyn, a mausoleum built in the Qājār period (16th century).
