22-Jun-2019 -- While driving along Interstate 80 in northern Nevada, I decided to make a detour to revisit this Degree Confluence Point (that I had previously visited 10 years ago, in April 2009). As before, I approached the point from the west and north, from Winnemucca, by taking NV 789 to Midas Road to Jake Creek Road (which passes 0.65 miles East of the point).
I was surprised by the notable difference in vegetation between my previous visit (in late April) and this visit (in late June). In April, the ground seemed quite barren. Today, however, the field was filled with long grass, with abundant butterflies and Mormon crickets.
Afterwards, because I planned to continue driving eastward into Utah (and eventually Colorado), I didn’t backtrack to Winnemucca (as I had in 2009). Instead, I continued South on Jake Creek Road, towards Battle Mountain, En route, I came across two farm gates - the second (at Izzenhood Ranch) marked with a sign saying “Private Road - No entry without permission”. Dejected, I was about to turn around and make the long drive back to Winnemucca. Fortunately, however, the land owner saw me, drove up to the gate, and gave me permission to continue through the ranch onto Izzenhood Road (and eventually to Battle Mountain). A reminder for future visitors, however: The best route to reach this point is from Winnemucca, rather than from Battle Mountain.
Here is a remote-controlled aerial video of this confluence point.
