#1: Overview

(visited by Jens Warnecke and Cenci Goepel)

09-Sep-2004 -- Continued from 41N 37E.

In September 2004 Cenci and I decided to visit 40N 40E in eastern Anatolia. We started by car in Hamburg and drove through the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Serbia/Montenegro and Bulgaria. After a 3500 km ride we finally reached 40N 40E but on our way we took the chance to visit some other DCPs in Turkey, too.

The fourth of them was 41N 39E. Unfortunately, we had only a very bad map of the area, so we parked the car half a kilometre away from the point. After crossing a nice rope bridge and climbing some steep hills, we hit another road that led us about 100 m close to the point. We left the road and walked downhill through an abandoned hazelnut grove. Soon the slope became dangerously steep and the vegetation too dense to progress any further.

We took the pictures about 60 metres west of the point. Probably it is easier to approach the point from the East going uphill but it was dusk already, so we did not give it a second try. On our way back we were invited by a local farmer to have a cup of tea.

Continued at 40N 40E.
