14-May-2005 –Finally, after almost 10 months we proceed to try once again to hunt N8W67. On the last opportunity we had tried to arrive to this CP, our approach was only 1000 mts from the target because the lands were flooded due to the raining season had begun.
This year the raining season has begun earlier than ever, and the last 2 weeks have been raining practically all over the country, so if we do not proceed now probably we have to wait until the next year for this hunt.

My son Alfredo, his girlfriend Valentina and me departed from Caracas at 7:30 am first toward west by the “Autopista Regional del Centro” up to La Encrucijada. From here we set up to south and at San Juan de los Morros filled our fuel tank up. We continued to south and arrived to Calabozo, where we bought ice, drinks and something to eat on the road. There also once again had fuel because in Cazorla and it surroundings there is not gas station.
There are two roads to go to Cazorla, the large (CN 2) is the one we used in our last time we were there, that it is in good condition, but some km before to San Fernando de Apure it necessary to change to another road towards east and this one it is worse than hell. The other one it is shorter but in no so good condition and it is the one we used last time to return to Calabozo from Cazorla. In this opportunity we decided to use the short one and we had the good news that all the asphalt cover was removed so the road surface was all dirty but in pretty good condition for a 4x4 vehicle.

We arrived to the same point that we reached last year and proceed to drive thru a very narrow path full of vegetation, mud and water. According to a satellite view, this path will conduct us very close to CP. At just 300 mts. from our target we had to continue but by hiking because path conditions were pretty bad, full of water and mud impossible even for our vehicle. So we hiked by the bushes close to the path, and with the help to our GPS arrived to CP. Immediately we did the “Confluence Dance” and took all required pictures. This CP it is located at just 4 mts from the path and at 46.6 masl.

While we were at CP, we remembered that just at the opposite part of our planet or antipode, it is a large area of volcanoes. Was amazing to visualize what is it and how looks like the other side of our planet and to understand how different and great it can be. Who will be the first confluencer that manage to visit a confluence and it antipode? As far as I know, none so far. But we know that inside every confluencer there is a hard worker expeditionary, who in the first opportunity he has, will succeed in this feat and it will published in the front page of DCP web site.

The economical activity in this region it is based on cattle farming, but we where surprised by a large rice field located just 40 km north from Cazorla.

We returned to our vehicle and refreshed ourselves with some drinks and a water melon that we bought in Calabozo. We arrived to home at 10 pm and on the way we were making plans for the next confluence hunt that should be very soon just before the incoming season of heavy rains.

14-May-2005 – Finalmente después de casi 10 meses, procedimos intentar nuevamente la cacería de N8W67. En la oportunidad anterior que había intentado llegar a este punto fue imposible acercarme mas de 1 Km., en virtud del mas estado del terreno el cual estaba prácticamente anegado ya que había iniciado la temporada de lluvias en plena forma. Este año la temporada de lluvias ha iniciado mas temprano que de costumbre. En las últimas dos semanas ha llovido prácticamente todos los días en gran parte de país, así que si no procedíamos ahora, no podríamos lograr esta cacería sino hasta el próximo año.

De Caracas salimos en mi Land Cruiser mi hijo Alfredo, su novia Valentina y yo a las 7:30 AM, dirección primero hacia el Oeste por la autopista Regional del Centro hasta La Encrucijada, donde nos dirigimos hacia el Sur pasando por San Juan de los Morros donde llenamos el tanque de gasolina. Continuamos hacia el Sur hasta llegar a Calabozo. Acá compramos hielo, bebidas para refrescarnos e hidratarnos así como algunos implementos para comer y volvimos a llenar nuestro tanque de gasolina. Desde esta ciudad existen dos vías que nos pueden llevar hasta la población de Cazorla, una larga (CN 2) la cual tomamos de ida la anterior oportunidad que tratamos de cazar esta confluencia y que al principio está bien asfalta pero unos Km. antes de llegar a San Fernando de Apure hay que tomar otra vía al Este, la cual está en estado deplorable. La otra es la que empleamos a de regreso aquella vez la cual es mas corta pero en mal estado. En esta oportunidad decidimos ir por la corta, la cual para grata sorpresa nuestra le habían removido casi toda la capa de asfalto quedando la superficie aunque de tierra en buenas condiciones para un vehículo 4x4.

Llegamos al mismo punto donde habíamos llegado el año pasado y procedimos a internarnos en una pequeña trilla, la cual está muy cubierta de vegetación y era difícil seguir su rastro. Este camino según la vista satelital nos conduciría muy cerca del PC. Estando a unos 300 mts nos vimos en la necesidad de continuar nuestra exploración a pie, dado que el camino estaba prácticamente intransitable aun para nuestro vehículo. Caminando entre los árboles cerca de la vía y orientados por el GPS, llegamos a nuestro objetivo. Realizamos la “Danza de la Confluencia” y tomamos las fotos de rigor. El PC está localizado apenas a 4 mts de la trilla y a unos 46.6 msnm.

Estando en el punto, recordamos que justo en el punto opuesto al nuestro o antípoda, es una gran área de volcanes. Fue impresionante visualizar que había y como lucia nuestro planeta en el sitio justo opuesto al nuestro y lo distinto y variado que resulta ser el mismo. ¿Quien será el primer cazador de confluencias que logre visitar una confluencia y su antípoda?. Según tengo entendido, ninguno por ahora. Pero todos sabemos que en las entrañas de cada cazador de confluencias hay un expedicionario batallador y en la primera oportunidad que tenga lograra efectuar esta hazaña, la cual con seguridad saldrá informada en la primera página de la página web del proyecto.

El área de la confluencia radica su actividad económica en la cría de ganado, sin embargo para sorpresa nuestra a solo 40 Km. al norte de Cazorla pudimos apreciar grandes extensiones de tierra dedicadas a la siembra de arroz.

Regresamos al vehículo y procedimos a refrescarnos con unas bebidas y una patilla (sandía) que habíamos comprado. Salimos del área y procedimos a regresar a Caracas, llegando nuevamente a casa a las 10 PM. En el camino ya estábamos planificando la fecha de la próxima cacería, la cual será en el futuro cercano antes de que avance mas la temporada de lluvias.
