(visited by Curtis Johnson)

08-May-2005 -- My vacation in Drums, pennsylvania right off the intersection of I80 and Route 309.

A very nice( but hilly) area. Checking out my game plan for 4 corners (40N,76W,77W,41N) I celebrated Mother Day 2005 by CAREFULLY walking the "Old Turnpike Road" and seeking 41N 76W about 5 miles from my vacation home base. Parking on the shoulder of a hairpin curve a little west of the CF, I donned a hunter's flourescent Orange vest. Walking east facing the traffic which was relatively light due to Sunday and Mother's day.

Probably looking like a traffic road survey member, I walked off the 2 decimal zeros of longitude and my spot was about 30 meters north of Confluence. A very nice day in May, actually a bit warm for the season. my view South has the driveway and mailbox for 289; .. however west side of mailbox is 28. (Likely lost the 9) but the area seemed to match the description of other visits listed for this point.

I crossed over the road and again facing traffic walked back to my car. MY first confluence visit, a bit disorienting when viewing the map and my "sense" of the slope at the confluence. I tended to think of north being "up the slope ", when in fact the opposite was true. I was on the north side of the mountain and going south takes one up the mountain.

I was very eager now for my other targets!!
