28-May-2005 --
It was Memorial Day weekend and time for another epic confluence and geodashing trip. Sam Gallucci and I would team up again to visit as many confluences as possible in a constrained amount of time. Our goal was to successfully visit at least 8 confluences and 20 geodashing points on this trip.
Jungo road out of Winnemucca is nicely paved but soon turns to hard packed gravel. We stopped just west of the confluence by a power line road heading northeast After offloading our ATV’s, we rode as far as we could before having to hike northwest the rest of the way. Thick brush prevented further travel by ATV.
The Sun had already set and it was getting dark fast. Both of us had forgotten our tripods so none of our pictures in the dimming nautical twilight came out very well. Picture #1 looks east and shows the thick ground cover. Picture #2 looks south. Picture #3 looks west. Picture #4 looks north. Picture #5 shows a perfect GPS reading.
It was completely dark on our ride back to the Tahoe. From where we parked, it was a 10.5 mile, 1 hour ATV/hiking round trip. We went to get gas and something to eat in Winemucca and found ourselves in the middle of the Run-a-Mucca Motorcycle Festival. We were there right around 9pm and saw people and fire trucks everywhere but somehow missed the Burning Bike Ceremony. What is it with people in Nevada and the propensity to gather around a ceremonial object to watch it burn?
Our total time off I-80 was 2:45 with 44 total miles traveled. We continued east towards Battle Mountain to set up for the next day’s adventures starting at 41°N 117°W
