02-Nov-2005 -- Continued from 13N 11E.
After spending four nights at the Dagona waterfowl sanctuary camp we had to leave and head for Maiduguri. From Gashua we took the road to Geidam. At Bayamari we turned off to Dapchi and followed the road leading to Damaturu. At Kalalawa we stopped underneath a tall tree and off-loaded our bikes. Our aim was to visit the confluence 12N 12E.
At the outskirts of the village we found some deep sandy tracks which lead in the direction of the Confluence, and followed this for around 8 km, then the track turned towards the North. By this time we had around 11 kilometres to hit our target.
All the tracks we found went from north to south but we had none to go east. We had no option but to go cross-country east till we found a path again which lead from north to south. Again and again we rode up and down to find a path leading east. We never found a path leading east, all through the entire distance we went cross country to the Confluence in this beautiful unspoiled nature. Only the last few meters to the Confluence we walked through a field of sparsely glowing millets. We did not spend much time at the Confluence and returned to our vehicle and continued our journey to Maiduguri.
