27-Aug-2006 -- The confluence is indeed close to Monchegorsk, a mining town in the central Kola. It is a typical company town with Norilsk Nickel as the company. Business is good and the town has been shined up over the last years. But the surrounding areas to the mine and the smelters look like a moon landscape...

Taking off from the Murmansk-St. Petersburg highway, near smaller town called Km 25, the GPS indicated that the point was only about five-six hundred meters behind a row of trees.

Well, things were not that easy. It turned out that the point was situated in the middle of some fields. The problem was only that the fields were drained, and the drainage meant canals, which were just too wide for jumping over in most places. After successfully jumping over eight, I failed. From then on it was easier to progress, but staying wet up to the knees.

Being flat fields surrounded by small trees it was difficult to take some interesting photos.

Unlike the first visitor to this confluence point I found no forest in the area. Airports are not marked on regular maps in Russia, and the point was definitely not within the perimeters of a base. But I was later told that there is an airport in the area.
