20-May-2006 -- Taking advantage of a long weekend due to a Turkish holiday (Youth and Sports Day) on 19 May, we headed for Antalya for a bit of R&R. After spending a relaxing day reading newspapers by the pool, we decided to head for Aspendos and Perge and hopefully visit 37N 31E en-route. As reported by previous visitors, the point is very easy to find and you can actually drive to within 100 m of the actual spot, although we did make the "effort" and get out of the car for the final few metres past the glass house growing local vegetables.
After taking our photographs, we continued on to visit the 12,000-seat Roman Theatre at Aspendos which has been restored and stages the very popular Opera and Ballet Festival during June & July. On our way back to Antalya we called in at Perge which was once a prosperous city but fell into decline and was abondoned in the 7th century. The Theatre which can seat 4,000 is currently under restoration.
