24-Jun-2007 -- Having spent the past three days at a square dance festival in Milwaukee, Cheryl and I were on our way back home to Virginia. We had just visited 41N 88W, and 41N 87W and were traveling east on local roads along 41N latitude across Illinois and now Indiana just east of Fort Wayne at 41N 85W. We skipped 41N 86W since it was projected to be yet another muddy cornfield just like 41N 87W. This was our third (and last) confluence of the day. We pulled off to the side of Minnich Road right at 41N latitude. The confluence was but 100 feet or so to our right (west). A young teenage boy at the house across the street (9431 Minnich Rd) took an interest in our activities and asked if we were out of gas. When I assured him all was well and I was interested in a point in the cornfield, he warned me to be careful of skunks. Apparently a number of them made their home in the cornfield along side the confluence. I walked to the very edge of the corn and noted (photo #5) that I was 75 feet from the confluence and decided that it was close enough. From there I took the requisite photos to the west over the top of the corn towards the confluence point (photo #1), to the north (photo #2) and south (photo #3) along Minnich Road, and to the east across the street (photo #4). Having escaped any encounter with skunks, I returned to the car and we headed for home.
