27-Jul-2007 -- The Degree Confluence Point of 47° N and 5° E is easy to approach. In France, in Burgundy, leave the city of Beaune via the D973 in the direction of Seurre (Eastbound). Fly over the motorway A6 named L' Autoroute du Soleil (Highway of the Sun, to the Mediterranean Sea). ) From this point follow the D973 for about 10 km. Just after the village of Corberon the 1st and the 2nd small road to the right brings you within walking distance of the confluence.
It is situated in a large field, which was already harvested and even dunged so I could walk through it. See the Google Earth image for the track, in blue by car and in red walking. The GPS image show a 10 zero display at an EPE of 5m. The standard North, East, South, West photographs are taken looking over the DCP.
While walking to and from the confluence I photographed plants to generate my usual overview.
I also discovered the beautiful caterpillar. Returned to the car, which was parked in full sunshine a lot of flies waited for me.
Although the direct environment of the confluence is not very interesting this changes suddenly when returning to the west side of the A6. This is one of most famous wine regions of France. Driving around is like reading the wine list of an expensive restaurant: Beaune, Pomard, Volnay, Auxey-Duresses, Meursault, Aloxe-Corton, Nuits St. George, Chambolle-Musigny, Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, etc.
A lot of the old buildings are roofed with tiles in splendid colours and patterns like the castle of La Rochepot. A visit to the castle (46.96N 4.68E) is worthwhile.
