29-Jun-2008 -- From highway 99 - North of Chico - I turned onto Lassen Road, and then an immediate left to Leininger road, which leads North towards the confluence point.
1.3 miles from the confluence point, a gate blocked the (now-gravel) road. The previous visitors to this confluence point had found the gate open, but in my case, the gate was closed and locked, so I couldn't drive further. However, because the area was deserted - and I knew that I would be staying very close to the road - I used my mountain bike to ride the remaining 1.3 miles to the confluence point.
The confluence point lies just 200 feet south of the road, on the side of a gentle, grassy (but rock-studded) hillside. The views were smoky, due to numerous wildfires throughout the state, so - unlike the Gasmans in 2001 - I was not able to see Mount Lassen.
