20-Aug-2008 -- Continuing southwards on E45 I took off to the right at Moskosel heading for Suddesjaur and beyond. Some 20 km on I took a right turn towards N. Bergnäs, then another 15 km or so to a forest road to the right which brought me to just 560 m from the cp.
The country side was flat on morainic ground. The GPS took me along a dividing line between a felling area and a pine forest. Along the forest I found a some trees where the bark had been scraped off. Had the bear been there? Looking more closely I realized it was more likely the elk which had had a snack from a younger pine with a juicy bark. You can see the vertical traces of their teeth which distinguishes them from traces of the bear's claws which are more horizontal. But this was still unusual as the elk seldom eats bark at this time of the year, that is more common in late winter or early spring. The weather was good, some glimpses of sun, but the rain started as soon as I got back to the car.
