24-Aug-2008 --
Time once again for the annual trip to the Kankakee Illinois area and returning students to collage. I had planned this trip to do N43 W89 and this on N43 W90, only 57 miles (92 Km) road mils separating them, in one day. Something I had never accomplished before. The thing is I actually accomplished three for the day.
This was about the easiest move in day I ever had. In fact my wife and I went Geocaching. We got them there then they were on their own to empty the trailer and load the truck at the storage palace and empty it at campus. We found a park by the river very close to the campus and even went back with the whole bunch for a fast food picnic.
Sunday morning and all I could see was two Confluence points to be done. One was completed and now on my way to the second one.
We didn’t have any trouble navigating right onto the gravel road. We stopped when the GPS told us to. I gathered up all the equipment and again handed the spare GPS to Suzanne and told her just like before make it read all zero’s.
There was a bit of a steep bank off the road but a leaning tree made a perfect hand rail. After helping my wife down I turned around and noticed a small piece of an old fence. Less than 40 meters from the road I announced our arrival .
After setting the compass and noting my bearings I began taking pictures. Then came the ‘dance’ (Suzanne and I joke about it.) And what a dance two steps this way a half a step the other, stumbled but didn’t fall on the underbrush.
The proof is in the picture they say. I got the ‘Magic’ on this one.
Now I was looking forward to getting home at a decent hour but as I stated earlier fate had a different plan for us. See you at N44 W92 and what a story to tell, a real adventure to that unplanned one.
