Travelling further west along the Hamilton Highway, we soon arrived at the small town of Penshurst, where it was time to leave the Hamilton Highway and travel the Macarthur Penshurst Road in a South Westerly direction, until we arrived at Lyon’s Road. At this point the road becomes dirt and runs parallel to 38° Latitude.

After nearly travelling 3 kilometres along this road, it looked like we may have to head into a eucalyptus hardwood forest to reach the confluence, when we were again back into open pasture grazing land and directly north of the confluence. Finding a suitable place to park the vehicle, it was time to start our 1.2 kilometre walk towards the confluence. On nearing the confluence, there was a small creek that had to be crossed. In normal conditions, it would not be a problem, but the constant crossing by sheep and cattle made the area very muddy. Not wanting to slip over in the mud, we made a very slight detour to the side of the paddock and crossed the creek along a fence line, where a section of small mesh was laid down over the creek and made the perfect place to cross without falling victim to mud or water.

Back on track again it did not take long to reach the exact location and again we had photos in hand and another successful confluence visit. Retracing our steps back to our vehicle, it was time for lunch on the side of the road. We were very pleased with our morning’s rewards, knowing that it was possible to log all three of these confluences, including over 3 kilometres of walking for all the confluences in under five and a half hours.

After lunch, we continued along Lyon’s Road until we reached the junction of the Hamilton Port Fairy Road, C184, where we turned north towards Hamilton and then further west back into our home state of South Australia.
