02-Jul-2009 -- This is the 70th of a series of 83 confluence visits during our voyage from Nigeria to Europe and back to Nigeria around the entire African continent. It all started on 28 January 2008 at 11N 5E.
Story continues from 33S 19E.
It was quite a chilly morning and we were leaving our guesthouse on the N7 near Clanwilliam. We drove to Clanwilliam and took the R364 to Calvinia. This road leads over the Pakhuis pass through the Cederberg Wilderness Area. Several kilometres after the pass there is a turnoff to the right and this road leads eventually after 54 km back onto the N7 near Klawer. But this road also bypasses the Confluence by 1.1 km.
We were lucky that there were people harvesting potatoes from a pivot and therefore the gates were not closed and we managed to drive closer to the Confluence. We parked our vehicle next to the pivot and walked the remaining 430 meters to the Confluence.
