17-Jul-2009 -- This is the 75th of a series of 83 confluence visits during our voyage from Nigeria to Europe and back to Nigeria around the entire African continent. It all started on 28 January 2008 at 11N 5E.
Story continues from 24S 18E.
We had spent the night at a guest farm outside the town of Otavi. Now we followed the road towards Grootfontein. 47 km outside the town we took the turnoff onto the gravel road D2804, followed it for 6 km, and turned off onto the gravel road D2805. After following this road for 34 km we got as close as 100 meters to the Confluence.
There is an easy fence to climb over and the next 100 meters are pure torture. The area is infested with the "haakeboom" bush. This bush has thorns like hooks in all different directions and it is impossible to go through without getting painfully hooked. This bush makes sheep farming impossible since the sheep are getting hopelessly entangled and can not get free anymore.
