(visited by Henrik Sunden)

14-Sep-2011 -- After a zodiac visit at the confluence on 13 September 2011, the ship Origo would continue to Ny-Ålesund, which is almost due south of the confluence. However, to keep good distance from land, captain Ingemar Utbult decided to start going west, which took the ship within 40 m from the confluence. So I got a series of pictures in daylight conditions.

Ny-Ålesund states having the northernmost post office in the world. Well, it is unmanned, but you can put 79 degrees N postmarks on your letters and postcards before you put stamps on them and put them into the mailbox. Service is slow, however, since the mail I put in the box hasn´t arrived yet. This was written on 26 October.

Coordinator's Note: I have just spoken with the chairman of the board of the Ny-Ålesund/Kings Bay research facility: "The old post office building is only open during the summer, for the rest of the year the Kings Bay reception handles post office duties."
